<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Communities of Practice 3.0: Rocketech’s Blueprint for Building Stronger Teams</h2>



<p>Communities of Practice are based on the initiative of people willing and able to share and transfer knowledge. We keep this principle despite our communities shifting from self-management to Scrum-team management.<strong> The mission of the CoP project is to create a space that encourages people to develop professionally and help others to do so.</strong></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Positive Impact of Communities of Practice on Working Conditions</h2>



<p>The initiative added several regular meetings to the project participants’ calendars and made their lives more colorful. The reason is simple: they personally create a new reality and influence changes in the company.</p>



<p>All the community work implies a <strong>specific algorithm</strong>. First, each group sets goals for the month. They present these goals to the CoP team lead (as mentioned above, this person is not a community member but a Scrum team representative).</p>



<p>The criterion for choosing a goal is the impact on improving the quality of our work. It refers to the quality of code, processes, and team interaction — <strong>the overall quality at every project development stage</strong>.</p>



<p>According to the task volume, the participants agree on the working meetings’ frequency and format. During these meetings, the teams discuss interim results and form the backlog for the next one.</p>



<p>Working meetings take place once a week. Moreover, the community gathers at a set time to present the monthly results.</p>



<p>Let’s take our CoP tasks for July 2022 as an example.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are the Castle-and-Moat Security and Zero-Trust Models?</h2>



<p>Nowadays, there are two favorites among cyber protection models—the good old bastion and zero trust. They provide good security but differ fundamentally.</p>



<p>To begin with, <strong>the foundation of any protection is a trust policy</strong>. Its level depends on two parameters: conditional and unconditional. In the first case, the system determines the maximum user access border and opens only “white” areas for work.</p>



<p>In the second case, access is granted to the entire resource mechanism. Unconditional trust is primarily provided in localized systems that scan the user’s account, device, and location for compliance with initial information. In addition, without knowing the unique addresses, getting into them is impossible or at least problematic.</p>



<p>Let’s look at both models in the context of protecting corporate businesses from external threats.  </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Castle-and-Moat Security</h3>



<p>Let’s try to visualize this complex. Imagine a classic medieval castle surrounded by a deep moat filled with water. The gates of the fortress have a drawbridge that protects the bastion. Imagined? A castle with a moat and drawbridge is what the model looks like exactly. </p>



<p><strong>The idea of ​​a protective complex is built on six pillars</strong>:</p>



<ul>
<li><strong>Isolation</strong>. High walls and a deep moat make it impossible to penetrate from the outside. The system is limited to a dedicated area (a place on the server). The infrastructure of the company is located inside.</li>



<li><strong>Tunnel entrance</strong>. The bridge principle allows you to authorize a user who, using a trusted account, enters the castle’s native environment and the internal structures (databases, files, etc.). </li>



<li><strong>The right to visit</strong>. Only the admin can create verified accounts using special tools. Most often, they are supplied with electronic keys located on an external medium and protected by passwords.</li>



<li><strong>Firewall barriers</strong>. Virtual shields and force fields (we classify them as invisible barriers) stop any attack from the outside and hide the contents of the territory from prying eyes, encrypting or modifying it.</li>



<li><strong>Local freedom</strong>. After logging in, the authorized user is automatically considered a trusted person and can access the contents of the information castle.</li>



<li><strong>Activity monitoring</strong>. The all-seeing eye monitors both the inner and outer perimeter, tracking suspicious actions and activity. It helps to localize offenders who have penetrated the protection in illegal ways.</li>

<p>Even though this model has been around for quite some time, it still provides robust protection for corporate operations. The key is to strike a balance and avoid inadvertently compromising the security setup while constructing a closed-off environment, which could potentially expose weaknesses to hackers.</p>

<p>I became interested in coding when I was 12 or 13. I remember trying to create pages with the uCoz website builder. But I soon realized it wasn’t really possible to build anything decent with it. So I started writing the code and making layouts manually. That’s how programming smoothly appeared in my life, without me realizing it. </p>



<p>Back to the question, I can say that programming just brings me a thrill. This job’s challenges motivate me to keep learning, get up earlier, and go to bed later to create the best quality products.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Why did you choose iOS?</h4>



<p>I switched to mobile development as this market started to grow back then. There weren’t many options – Android, Windows, and iOS. I immediately dismissed Windows because this platform was not my cup of tea. I’ve always tried to avoid it. I spent a year in Android development – between web and iOS – but I can’t say I enjoyed it. So I switched to iOS.</p>



<p>Apple is a simple case: you buy an iPhone, and after a while, all your devices are from Apple. So I once bought an iPhone, then a MacBook, and realized it was the time to start developing for iOS.</p>

<p>Code-related – they are always there. You encounter something new on each project and need to adapt to these new things. It alone is a big challenge.</p>



<p>Once there was an unexpected trip to Spain to develop a startup. On a Monday evening, I was casually working and not planning anything even a week ahead. And suddenly, there was a message saying I had to be in Spain on Saturday. I could refuse and, initially, I did. However, the client was successful at persuading me. And I went to Spain. Accepting such an offer and going to another country for three months is a big challenge. At the same time, it’s one of my career highlights so far.</p>
